Mahjubeh’s Questions:
1. What details about Persian calligraphy do you want to know? The history, the meaning, the metaphor, etc. I’d be interested in the history and how/why each stroke represents the sound that it does. Also, I’m interested in learning how to decipher when to use the different shapes of a single letter and how to create a creative and interesting design with the letters. 2. What is unique and different about Persian calligraphy? Which qualities are more interesting for you? Persian calligraphy is unique to me because it looks nothing like Roman letters and seems more artistic. The exaggerated gestures and working with thin and thick lines seems much more interesting than writing Roman letters (maybe because I’m just used to writing this way, but the fluidity in the letters fascinates me). 3. In your opinion, which aspects of Persian calligraphy can be adapted by English/Latin calligraphers? The balance between thin and thick lines, smooth gestures, and exaggerated markings can be integrated into Latin calligraphy.
